hearing tests

At Grosse Pointe Audiology, we specialize in comprehensive hearing tests. Here’s what to expect when you come in for a hearing test:

  1. We first ask a few questions about your medical history to rule out some less common causes of hearing loss.
  2. There will be a quick, non-invasive ear exam. We'll look at your ear canal and ear drum with an otoscope to check that sound has a smooth path through the middle and inner ear structures.
  3. We will then test your ears by playing sounds through headphones at varying pitches . We will ask you to let us know when you can hear a beep.
  4. Another test will be done to gauge how well you can understand speech at varying volumes.
  5. Following the two tests, we’ll display your results on an audiogram, and explain the extent and nature of any hearing loss you might have.

Real Ear Verification

Since we are all Doctors of Audiology, we are dedicated to providing you with cutting edge service based on the latest research and best practices. That's why we are proud to use Real Ear Verification to fit hearing aids. It provides exceptional accuracy and a true indication of the hearing aids' benefit to your particular hearing loss. Even though it is deemed the best way to fit hearing aids, only 30% of all listening practices nationwide use Real Ear Verification to fit their hearing devices.

This technique is used to take into consideration your ear canals ' individual acoustic properties. In order to guarantee the best level of amplification into your ears at different frequencies, a special microphone records the sounds created by the hearing aids in your ear canal. To maximize the performance of the hearing device, it is crucial that your hearing aid matches your hearing loss level precisely, and that’s exactly what real-ear verification does.

Earwax Management

Earwax is a natural product which is essential in keeping dirt and debris from entering your inner ear. It usually manages to work its own way out. Sometimes you may get impacted wax, especially if you’re an avid user of earbuds. If it begins to cause pain or affect your hearing, we can have it professionally removed. Assistive Listening Devices

Today's hearing technology is powerful and can benefit those with hearing loss in a big way. But there are some occasions where you might have special requirements that are not addressed by your hearing aids. This is where assistive listening devices can come in handy.

We offer special types available to help you listen better in most situations, including being on the phone, out with friends, or even just watching TV at home.

Custom Hearing Protection

Our ears are extremely delicate and complicated structures that enable us to hear. When we damage the delicate hair cells within them through noise, they can't be corrected. That is why we should look after our ears and guard them against persistently loud noise.

We supply custom hearing protection that fit comfortably and protect you against loud noise, whatever you might be doing. Made from unique molds of your ears, they are made of soft silicone to enable users to wear them for a longer period than standard earplugs.

Hearing Aid Repair

Hearing aids are built to help your hearing for several years. However, years of regular use can mean that they may sometimes develop problems. Even if you clean them everyday, your ear canals inevitably attract dirt, humidity, and earwax – all of which can damage your hearing aid's sensitive components.

We can help maintain and service your hearing aids whenever they need it. The next time you have a problem with your hearing aid, contact us to see how we can help.
